Hello! Happy Bank Holiday Monday!

A brief edition this week as we celebrate the hols but I wanted to tell you about two interviews in the bag for The Black Female Narrative podcast, this time with International Property Developer, Lesley McKenley and Journal Therapist Nadine Robinson.

I can't wait to release them because both women's passion for their work and commitment to showing others how they can benefit from investments and therapy was inspiring. I left the conversations learning sonething new and there's nothing that makes me happier than hearing the amazing things Black women do in the world.

I'll be releasing the first episode at the end of May!

Until Monday Loved Ones,

Juanita Rosenior, Founder and Editor in Chief, The Black Female Narrative

This week's book is Black, Brilliant and Dyslexic by Marcia Brissett-Bailey.

Here's the description:

This is a raw, honest and enlightening collection of experiences, across the black and dyslexic community, giving an intersectional perspective on topics including the education system, the workplace, daily life and entrepreneurship. These stories highlight the challenges, progress, successes and contributions of the black and dyslexic community, helping others to find their voice, feel empowered and be proud of their differences.

It charts journeys from early childhood through to adulthood and, despite the lack of representation within the public arena, how black dyslexic people of all ages are changing the world.

Raising awareness, breaking silences and tackling the stigma around dyslexia and the difficulties stemming from a lack of support. Contributors share how they tackled their unique adversities and provide practical tips for others to live proudly at the intersection of blackness and dyslexia.

Of her book Marcia says “My book showcases positive role models for black people and those within our wider dyslexic community and society, to inspire current and future generations.”

My favourite celebrity little brother, Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr, aka Stormzy continues to do us proud. This week he announced a new centre for young people where they'll be able to produce art, spend time and generally have a safe and productive space. Based in Croydon, the project has been three years in the making according to Big Mike's announcement video.

Oooo the way I respect Stromzy and salute his mum. From what I can see, she raised a good soul who loves his family and those around him fiercely and is a man who is committed to making an impact beyond himself. I love his authenticity but also his business savvy and commitment to his community. Between #MerkyBooks to his co-purchase of AFC Croydon Athletic to his work trying to get more of the global majority into careers typically not available to them, Stormzy's using his life to be of service. He's a man who knows who he is and is actively on a mission to make a difference in the world, only speaking when it's done. In a world where a lot of people can be more concerned about themselves, his approach is refreshing.
